Quincy Magoo is a wealthy eccentric with dangerously poor eyesight, and the museum exhibition he has organized becomes the target of a jewel thief named Luanne LeSeur and her accomplice, Bob Morgan. A precious ruby meant to be the centerpiece ends up in Magoo's hands by accident, and he remains unaware of it while the thieves, along with agents from the FBI and the CIA, try to track him down. His nephew Waldo and his bulldog Angus are close by as he stumbles through the pursuit.
The film was directed by Stanley Tong, following his Hong Kong action work on Police Story 3: Super Cop, Supercop 2, Rumble in the Bronx and Police Story 4: First Strike, and it stands as the fifth of the nine features he has directed. Leslie Nielsen leads as Magoo, with Kelly Lynch as Luanne, Matt Keeslar as Waldo, Nick Chinlund as Bob, Stephen Tobolowsky and Ernie Hudson as the pursuing agents, from a screenplay by Pat Proft and Tom Sherohman. Walt Disney Pictures produced it on a budget of 30 million dollars, and it took about 75 million dollars worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a critics' rating of 2.7 out of 10 from 32 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 433 votes, so both critics and audiences rate it low.
