Short description
Two nine-year-old girls who look exactly alike meet by chance and discover they come from opposite worlds. Amanda is an orphan living in a children's home, cared for by Diane Barrows, the kind social worker she hopes will adopt her. Alyssa is the daughter of Roger Callaway, a wealthy widower who is about to marry a woman the girls dislike. When the two become friends, they trade places for a while, and the plan grows into an attempt to bring Roger and Diane together.
Andy Tennant directed the film, working from a screenplay by Deborah Dean Davis, with James Orr and Jim Cruickshank producing. The cast includes Kirstie Alley as Diane, Steve Guttenberg as Roger, Philip Bosco, Jane Sibbett, and Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen as Amanda and Alyssa. It was Tennant's first directorial credit in a run that continued with Fools Rush In, EverAfter and Anna and the King.
It Takes Two is a comedy with family and romance elements, made in the United States and released in November 1995. - Roger hit his head on a tree (while saving Diana) on the right side, but Diana later put a bandage on the opposite side.
- Director Andy Tennant wanted Winona Ryder to play the role of Diane, which was eventually played by Kirsty Alley. However, the film company “Rysher Entertainment” decided that Ryder looked too young and suggested Julia Louis-Dreyfus to the director, but she was unavailable due to filming commitments for the series “Seinfeld” (1989-1998).
