King of New York

Frank White, a drug lord released after a long prison term, sets out to take over New York's narcotics trade. He reassembles his crew and moves against the Colombian, Italian and Chinese bosses who control the market, while basing himself in a suite at the Plaza Hotel. Part of the money he takes in is meant to fund a hospital in the Bronx, which earns him the nickname the King of New York in the press. A group of police officers led by Roy Bishop, convinced his generosity is a cover for something else, set out to stop him by whatever means they can, and the rival crews he is pushing aside have their own reasons to fight back.

Abel Ferrara directed the film, the fourth of the seventeen features he has made to date, following Fear City and preceding Bad Lieutenant. Nicholas St. John wrote the screenplay, and Christopher Walken plays Frank White, with David Caruso, Laurence Fishburne, Victor Argo, Wesley Snipes and Janet Julian among the credited cast of fifty-three. It was released in July 1990 and runs 103 minutes.
