Furcy

Set in 1817 on Reunion Island, this historical drama follows an enslaved man named Furcy who discovers a letter of emancipation among his deceased mother's possessions. With the assistance of an abolitionist prosecutor, Furcy initiates a legal battle against his owner, Joseph Lory, to secure his freedom. This struggle lasts nearly thirty years and includes periods of exile in Mauritius and imprisonment, eventually concluding in 1846 when the case reaches the Royal Court of Paris. Furcy's eventual victory makes him one of the few people in French history to win legal freedom before the general abolition of slavery.
