Coneheads

Coneheads is a 1993 science fiction comedy about two aliens from the planet Remulak who are sent to Earth as the advance guard of an invasion. Their ship is intercepted and crashes, stranding them in the United States, where they must wait years before anyone can retrieve them. Beldar and Prymatt settle in Paramus, New Jersey, passing themselves off as an ordinary immigrant family by claiming to be from France, which somehow satisfies almost everyone they meet. Their cone-shaped heads, stiff gait and taste for household items do not quite fit the story, and an official from the Immigration and Naturalization Service grows suspicious of them. The film was directed by Steve Barron, whose earlier credits include Electric Dreams and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin play Beldar and Prymatt, joined by Michael McKean, Laraine Newman, Jason Alexander and Lisa Jane Persky in a credited cast of 54. Aykroyd wrote the screenplay with Bonnie and Terry Turner, and Lorne Michaels produced; the characters originated in sketches on Saturday Night Live. Made for 33 million dollars, the film returned about 21 million dollars worldwide. Its ratings are modest across the board: 5.5 on IMDb from 62,000 votes, 5.5 on TMDB, and 4.8 from critics, leaving audiences and critics closely aligned.
