Ju-on: The Grudge 2 follows a television crew making a paranormal investigation programme. Kyoko Harase, an actress known for horror roles, joins a production that plans to shoot inside the house linked to the Saeki hauntings, where earlier residents met violent or unexplained ends. Strange events begin during the shoot, and the curse that occupies the house does not stay there; it attaches itself to Kyoko, the crew and those around them.
Takashi Shimizu directed and wrote the film, his fifth feature in chronological order, following Ju-on: The Grudge in 2002 and preceding his 2004 American remake The Grudge. Noriko Sakai plays Kyoko, with Shingo Katsurayama, Yui Ichikawa, Emi Yamamoto, Chiharu Niiyama and Kei Horie among the main cast. The Japanese production was made for a budget in the region of 20 million dollars and took about 71 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for a film of its scale.
On IMDb the rating stands at 6.3 from roughly 12,000 votes, and on TMDB at 6.5 from about 400 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 69 reviews sits below the audience scores, suggesting reviewers were less convinced than genre viewers. Running 92 minutes, it continues the series' premise of a curse passed between people rather than contained by a place.
