Set during World War I in 1917, this historical drama follows Bakary Diallo, a man from Senegal who joins the French army after his seventeen-year-old son, Thierno, is forced into military service. Once deployed to the front lines, the two must navigate the dangers of combat together. While Bakary focuses on protecting his son and ensuring his safe return home, Thierno undergoes a personal transformation. This evolution is influenced by a French officer, leading the young man to challenge his father's guidance as he adapts to the pressures of war.
The film was directed by Mathieu Vadepied, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Olivier Demangel. It features Omar Sy in the lead role as Bakary Diallo, alongside Alassane Diong as Thierno and Jonas Bloquet as Lieutenant Chambreau. The production was a collaboration between companies from France and Senegal, including Gaumont and France 3 Cinéma, with Omar Sy also serving as a producer.
Upon its release, the movie earned 9 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception was moderate, with the film receiving a 6/10 rating on IMDb from 1,700 votes and a matching 6/10 rating on TMDB from 264 votes.
