Where the Truth Lies

Where the Truth Lies is a Canadian drama and mystery thriller about a comedy duo whose career collapses after a young woman is found dead in their hotel room. Lanny Morris and Vince Collins are at the height of their fame when the discovery ends their partnership and their television work. Years later, an ambitious journalist named Karen O'Connor sets out to understand what really happened that night and why the two men split, a search that draws her into the secrets and rivalries behind their public image.

Atom Egoyan directed and wrote the screenplay, working from Rupert Holmes's novel. The film sits between Ararat (2002) and To Each His Own Cinema (2007) in the run of features Egoyan has directed. Kevin Bacon plays Lanny and Colin Firth plays Vince, with Alison Lohman as Karen. The supporting cast includes David Hayman, Rachel Blanchard and Maury Chaykin. Robert Lantos produced the film for Serendipity Point Films, with backing from Téléfilm Canada, The Movie Network and Movie Central.

The production had a budget of 25 million USD and took about 3 million USD worldwide, a wide gap between its cost and its theatrical returns. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.2/10 from 327 votes. The film critics' rating stands at 5.6/10 from 100 reviews, somewhat below the audience scores.
