Snow in Midsummer is a historical drama centered on the connection between Ah Eng and Dou E, who are linked through a time loop spanning 49 years. The story begins in 1969 amidst political unrest in Kuala Lumpur. During this time, a Cantonese street opera troupe performs a play called Snow in June, and Ah Eng and her mother find safety with the performers while becoming separated from her father and brother. The narrative follows Ah Eng as she returns to the city in 2018, where she has an unexpected reunion with Dou E at a cemetery.
The film was written and directed by Keat Aun Chong, marking his third feature following The Incident and Dayang Bersiong - The Sinful Cook. The production was a collaboration between companies from Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan, including Janji Pictures and Swallow Wings Films. The cast is led by One-Fang in the role of Ah Eng and Pearlly Chua, who plays both Dou E and the troupe master. Other supporting roles are performed by Rexen Cheng Jen-Shuo, Pauline Tan, Peter Yu, and Alvin Wong. The movie has a total runtime of 116 minutes.
