Kansas Raiders

Kansas Raiders is a Western set during the American Civil War. Jesse James, his brother Frank, the Younger brothers and Kit Dalton, all driven by violence suffered at the hands of Union soldiers, join the irregular fighters commanded by the notorious Colonel Quantrill. The recruits believe the raid offers a way to strike back, but they soon find themselves caught up in killings and destruction that go far beyond anything they set out to avenge. Tensions grow as Jesse comes to question the purpose of the brutality around him and the group faces a Union offensive against Quantrill's hideout in Lawrence, Kansas.

Ray Enright directed the film, which followed Gung Ho! and The Spoilers in his filmography and came before Flaming Feather. Robert L. Richards wrote the screenplay, and Ted Richmond produced it for Universal International Pictures. Audie Murphy, already known for war films, plays Jesse James, with Brian Donlevy as Quantrill, Marguerite Chapman as Kate Clarke, Scott Brady as Bill Anderson and Tony Curtis as Kit Dalton. The picture runs eighty minutes.
