Short description
The Hills Have Eyes 2 follows a unit of National Guard soldiers on a training exercise in the New Mexico desert. Their routine assignment, delivering equipment to a group of scientists at a remote research camp, turns strange when they arrive and find the site abandoned. A distress signal from the surrounding hills sends the soldiers on a search-and-rescue mission into terrain that was once visited by the Carter family in the earlier film. What waits for them there is a tribe of cannibalistic mutants, and this time the mutants are determined to wipe the soldiers out.
The film is a sequel to the 2006 remake of Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes and was directed by Martin Weisz, whose only previous feature was Grimm Love the year before. Wes Craven and Jonathan Craven wrote the screenplay, with Craven producing alongside Marianne Maddalena and Peter Locke. Michael McMillian, Jessica Stroup, Jacob Vargas, Flex Alexander, Michael Bailey Smith and Lee Thompson Young lead a credited cast of twenty-four.
Made for a budget of about 15 million dollars, the film took roughly 38 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.1 from around 71,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 from over 1,600 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7 from 64 reviews places it below both audience scores.

- The idea for the film came to Wes Craven (who participated in the project as one of the scriptwriters) during a conversation with producer Peter Locke. He imagined that after everything that had happened to her, the heroine from the previous film, Brenda (played by Emily de Ravin), would join the National Guard to overcome her fears. Brenda had just completed her training, and her sergeant announces that the group is being sent back to the New Mexico desert to finish off the surviving mutants. Only Brenda knows the location of the mutants, which is why the sergeant and the group need her. The actress was busy filming "Lost" (2004-2010) and therefore could not participate in the sequel. So Craven replaced her character, but kept most of the concept, including the National Guard training course.
