Short description

A Soviet woman is caught between her husband and son, who find themselves on opposing sides of the Russian Revolution.

What's left behind the scenes

A film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Maxim Gorky.
The film was restored and dubbed in 1935 and 1969.
The film was ranked third in a survey of world film critics conducted by the Italian publishing house A. Mondadori in Milan to identify the top one hundred films in the history of cinema (1978).
At one time, the studio even intended to give the film a different title — "The Father." In this version of the script, Nilovna would have become the victim of a stray bullet in a tavern, and the entire complex process of shifting consciousness and coming to the revolution would have been "transferred" to Vlasov the father.
It was originally intended that Maria Blumenthal-Tamarina would play Nilovna.
