Sleepover

Sleepover follows four friends on the night before they start high school. Julie, Hannah, Farrah and Yancy are not part of the popular crowd, so when the school's most popular girls challenge them to an overnight scavenger hunt, they accept. The winning team gets a place at the popular table in the fall, while the losers face eating by the dumpsters. What begins as a quiet party at Julie's house turns into a night of chasing clues across town, complicated by Julie's mother, who believes the girls are safely asleep, and by the presence of a boy Julie likes.

Joe Nussbaum directed from a screenplay by Elisa Bell, and the film was produced by Charles Weinstock, Bob Cooper and Karen Lunder for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Weinstock Productions and Landscape Entertainment. Alexa PenaVega, Mika Boorem, Scout Taylor-Compton and Kallie Flynn Childress play the four friends, with Jane Lynch as Julie's mother and Sam Huntington as Ren. The cast and crew together number in the dozens.

Sleepover was Nussbaum's first feature as director and opened in July 2004. Made for about 10 million dollars, it took in roughly the same amount worldwide, so it did not recoup much beyond its production cost at the box office. On IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from around 19,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 540 votes. A critics' score of 4.2 out of 10 from 99 reviews puts it below even the modest audience ratings.
