What's left behind the scenes
- Aunt May does not appear in this series (with the exception of a photograph in Peter's bedroom) because MTV executives feared that the appearance of elderly people would deter their target youth audience from watching.
- The series was originally developed as a television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man comic—a reboot of the Spider-Man comics aimed at attracting a modern audience unfamiliar with the hero's older stories. Following the success of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" film, the show's creators changed the concept to a loose sequel to the movie, while Bendis remained as a creative consultant to reimagine the protagonist and other characters.
