Short description

Like his legendary namesake, Kwai Chang Caine is a warrior monk, operating a Shaolin temple in Northern California. After an evil priest, Tan, destroys the temple, Caine and his young son, Peter each believe the other has perished. The two embark on very different paths -- Caine wanders the Earth, while Peter is a cop. When fate brings the two together, they work to overcome their differing philosophies to battle Tan, and then to help the innocent and bring justice to the new Wild West -- 90s urban America.

What's left behind the scenes

  • David Carradine only began practicing martial arts after he was cast in the role of Kwai Chang Caine. From then on, he practiced Tai Chi and Kung Fu for the rest of his life.
  • Al Leong, the stunt coordinator and choreographer, was extremely dissatisfied with the project, particularly the pace of filming, which left no time for a creative approach to staging dangerous scenes or even for taking proper safety measures. Leong frequently clashed with the producers and eventually wrote a letter to Warner Bros. outlining his concerns and thoughts on the matter. He never received a response and eventually left the project.
  • David Carradine harbored thoughts of this sequel series for 12 years. In the 1980s, he was offered something similar, but the actor refused due to the excessive amount of violence, weapons, and car crashes in the proposed project.
  • Bruce Lee auditioned for the role of Kwai Chang Caine but did not get the part. The producers completely misunderstood him and, furthermore, considered him too energetic and unsuitable for the role.
