Watchers Reborn

A detective named Murphy is drawn into the violent death of his partner, a killing that looks too brutal to have been done by a person and too deliberate to have come from an animal. His investigation brings him together with a stray dog called Einstein and a woman, Grace, and what he finds points toward a secret government experiment in genetic engineering. The creature behind the killing was produced by that project, and only Einstein, whose intelligence rivals a human's, may be able to track it down. Those who ran the experiment would rather see their work continue, and they are prepared to eliminate anyone who threatens to expose it.

Watchers Reborn was directed by John Carl Buechler, whose earlier features include The Dungeonmaster, Troll, Friday the 13th Part VII - The New Blood and Cellar Dweller, with Wizardream following much later in his career. Sean Dash wrote the screenplay, Darin Spillman produced, and the cast is led by Mark Hamill as Murphy, alongside Lisa Wilcox as Grace, Stephen Macht, Gary Collins, Lou Rawls and Kane Hodder. The film runs 90 minutes and was produced by Concorde Pictures in the United States.

Released in 1998, the film sits near the end of the run of features Buechler directed before a long gap in that filmography. Audiences have rated it poorly: on IMDb it holds 3.8 out of 10 from 855 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 4.9 out of 10 from 21 votes. Both figures indicate a small, largely negative response.
