13 Going on 30

Jenna Rink is thirteen and miserable. Her birthday party has gone badly, the popular girls ignore her, and the boy she likes does not know she exists. She wishes she could skip ahead to being thirty, and the next morning she gets her wish: she wakes up as a thirty-year-old woman with a glamorous job at a New York magazine, an apartment she could never have afforded, a successful boyfriend and a circle of friends she does not recognise. Inside, she is still a teenager, and she has no memory of the years that supposedly passed. As she tries to work out what happened to her, she finds that the one person she counted on, her former best friend Matt, is no longer part of her life.

Gary Winick directed the film, his second feature after Tadpole, followed later by Charlotte's Web, Bride Wars and Letters to Juliet. Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa and Rita Hsiao wrote the screenplay, and Jennifer Garner plays Jenna opposite Mark Ruffalo as Matt, with Judy Greer, Andy Serkis, Kathy Baker and Phil Reeves in supporting roles, among a credited cast of 75.

Made for a budget of 37 million dollars, the film took 96 million dollars worldwide, a solid return. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from 245,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from 5,669 votes, while critics rated it 6.2 out of 10 from 178 reviews, putting it broadly in line with audience opinion.
