Bob Maconel is a lonely, overlooked office worker who spends his days being ignored by colleagues in a drab cubicle. He fantasizes about killing the people around him and brings a gun to work, but on the day he has chosen, a coworker opens fire first. Bob shoots the other man instead, using the weapon he had intended for his own attack, and becomes a celebrated hero rather than a killer. He saves Vanessa, a woman from the office, and finds himself promoted and treated as a valued employee by the very people he had wanted to harm. His new life grows complicated as he and Vanessa, who is paralysed, develop an unusual relationship.
Frank A. Cappello wrote, directed and produced the film, his first feature as director before The Womb. Christian Slater leads as Bob, with Elisha Cuthbert as Vanessa and William H. Macy as Gene Shelby among a cast of 21 credited performers. The film runs 95 minutes and blends comedy, drama and romance.
Released in 2007, it drew modest numbers. On IMDb it holds 6.7/10 from around 24,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4/10 from 382 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2/10 from 20 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
