Fido
Short description
Fido takes place in Willard, a small town in an idyllic version of the 1950s where the streets are neat and everyone knows their neighbors. In a world still shaped by a past zombie outbreak, the company ZomCon has turned the undead into obedient household servants with an electronic collar. The Robinson family buys one of these zombies, named Fido, to help around the house, mostly to keep up with the neighbors. The mother, Helen, wants the status symbol; the father, Bill, is haunted by the conflict and afraid of zombies; and their son, Timmy, is skeptical of the whole arrangement. Timmy and Fido form a genuine bond, but a fault in the collar turns the household pet into a problem for the community, forcing Timmy to protect his friend.
Andrew Currie directed and co-wrote the film with Robert Chomiak and Dennis Heaton; it is the first of the two features he has directed. Billy Connolly plays Fido, with Carrie-Anne Moss, Dylan Baker, Kesun Loder, Henry Czerny and Tim Blake Nelson rounding out the cast. Made in Canada for about 8 million US dollars, it mixes comedy, drama, horror and romance. On IMDb the film holds 6.7 out of 10 from roughly 31,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.5 out of 10 from about 502 votes. The critics' rating stands at 6.7 out of 10 from 75 reviews, close to the audience scores.
