Freaky Friday

Teenager Anna Coleman and her widowed mother Tess, a psychologist preparing to remarry, disagree about nearly everything, from clothes and music to Anna's ambitions and Tess's fiancé. After an argument at a Chinese restaurant, they eat fortune cookies and wake the next morning having swapped bodies. Each must now navigate the other's life, with Tess's wedding only days away, while gaining a new understanding of the other's perspective.

Mark Waters directed the film, the second of the fifteen features he has made in chronological order, following Head Over Heels and preceding Mean Girls. The screenplay is by Leslie Dixon and Heather Hach, and Andrew Gunn produced. Lindsay Lohan plays Anna and Jamie Lee Curtis plays Tess, with Harold Gould, Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon and Stephen Tobieslawsky among the credited cast of thirty-four.

Released in August 2003, the film had a budget of about 26 million US dollars and took roughly 161 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 176,000 votes, while on TMDB it rates 6.6 from over 4,300 votes, indicating a more modest but steady audience response. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 160 reviews places professional assessment somewhat higher than the viewer scores.
