Short description

The Visitors II: The Corridors of Time continues the story of the medieval knight Godefroy de Montmirail and his servant Jacquouille, who first travelled through time in the 1993 comedy The Visitors. Preparing to marry Frénégonde de Pouille, Godefroy learns that the family jewels and a sacred relic have gone missing, taken by Jacquouille and his companion Ginette into the twentieth century. The relic is said to guarantee fertility to the brides of the Pouille family, so without it the wedding cannot go ahead. Godefroy must return to the present day to recover the jewels, the relic and his unruly servant, while Jacquouille's modern descendant Jacques-Henri Jacquard, owner of the family chateau, is drawn into the confusion.

Jean-Marie Poiré directed and co-wrote the film with Christian Clavier, who plays Jacquouille and his present-day descendant among several roles. Jean Reno returns as Godefroy, with Muriel Robin, Marie-Anne Chazel, Christian Bujeau and Pierre Vial in supporting parts. It was the fifth of seven features Poiré directed, arriving between The Visitors and the 2001 American remake Just Visiting. The production had a budget of 140 million USD, and its cast of 48 credited performers reflects the large-scale comedy the filmmakers assembled.

The film received moderate audience ratings, sitting at 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 14,000 votes and 6 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 1,000 votes. Those figures indicate a warm but limited reception compared with the following the original built, with the sequel's broader time-travel plot and returning characters appealing mainly to viewers already familiar with the first film.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Eighteen years passed between the release of this film and the sequel, "Aliens 3: Taking Bastille" (Jean-Marie Poiré).
  • Valerie Lemercier decided not to reprise the role she played in the first film of the 1993 franchise, believing the role would be exactly the same as in the first film. She also disliked the script.
