Short description

Erased follows Ben Logan, a former CIA operative who has left the agency behind and moved to Brussels to raise his teenage daughter, Amy, after years of limited contact with her. He takes a job at a multinational security firm, only to arrive at work one day and find the offices empty, with no sign the company ever existed. A colleague soon appears, but instead of explaining the situation, he abducts Ben and Amy, revealing that Ben is at the centre of an international conspiracy tied to his own past. Forced to run, father and daughter must learn to rely on each other while he draws on the skills from his old life to keep them alive.

The film is directed by Philipp Stölzl, arriving between North Face and The Physician in his filmography. Aaron Eckhart plays Ben, with Liana Liberato as Amy and Olga Kurylenko as Anna Brandt, alongside Garrick Hagon, Eric Godon and Yassine Fadel. Arash Amel wrote the screenplay, and the production was handled by uMedia, Smash Media, Transfilm and Essential Entertainment across Belgium, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Made on a budget of 12 million dollars, it runs 100 minutes.

On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.1 out of 10 from 806 votes, indicating a modest reception from viewers.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The conspirators used, in particular, the pseudonym 'Marcus Wolf.' This was the name of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the GDR Ministry for State Security from 1958 to 1986. State Security Colonel General Wolf lived from 1923 to 2006. One of his greatest achievements was the infiltration of state security officer Günter Guillaume (1927-1995) into the inner circle of West German Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt (1913-1992). In this film, Brandt is the surname of a CIA operative played by Olga Kurylenko.
  • All street scenes and scenes in the tram were filmed in Brussels, despite the fact that some events in the film take place in Antwerp. The road signs in the film are in two languages, and the trams are from 'MIVB/STIB' (the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company), the public transport operator for Brussels.
  • In the film, a police officer at the Antwerp central station is wearing a bulletproof vest with the inscription 'ZPZ 5339.' This inscription is a code for a police zone in Brussels, not Antwerp.
