This historical music drama follows the ascent and eventual collapse of Milli Vanilli, a pop duo formed by German producer Frank Farian. In the late 1980s, nightclub dancers Robert Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan achieved global stardom, topping charts and winning awards while pretending to sing. The conflict centers on the secret that the duo did not actually provide the vocals for their recordings, a deception that eventually led to a massive public scandal and strained the relationship between the two performers.
The film was written and directed by Simon Verhoeven, marking his third feature film following Friend Request and Nightlife. The cast is led by Tijan Njie and Elan Ben Ali as the two singers, with Matthias Schweighöfer playing the role of Frank Farian. Produced by companies including Universal Pictures and Voltage Pictures, the movie had a worldwide box office return of 4 million USD.
Audience reception was generally positive, with a rating of 7.1 on IMDb from 4,500 votes and 7.4 on TMDB from 141 votes. This sentiment is higher than the reception from film critics, who gave the movie a rating of 6.3 based on 34 reviews.
