Heartbreakers
Short description
Max Conners and her daughter Page run a long-standing con together. Max charms wealthy men into marriage, then Page seduces the new husband, and Max catches them together. The resulting divorce settlements, and the money that comes with them, fund a comfortable life. The routine has worked many times over, but it comes under strain when Page falls for a young man with no money of his own, and when a tax agent takes an interest in the pair's affairs. Matters grow more complicated still when a former husband tracks them down.
David Mirkin directed, following his 1997 film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion; Paul Guay, Stephen Mazur and Robert Dunn wrote the screenplay. Sigourney Weaver plays Max and Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Page, with Jason Lee, Gene Hackman, Ray Liotta and Anne Bancroft among the cast. The production, mounted by Davis Entertainment, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Winchester Films, cost about 35 million dollars and took roughly 58 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 62,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 from about 1,025 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 from 125 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- The most expensive scene to produce was at the end of the film, where Jennifer Love Hewitt's character talks to Ray Liotta's character near a car. It was cold on set, and the actress wrapped a white sweater around her waist, which ended up in the shot and had to be removed from the screen using computer technology.

- Filming took place from April 24 to August 1, 2000.
- Jennifer Love Hewitt was taught the restaurant trick shown by her character by actor and illusionist Ricky Jay. He actually taught Hewitt several card tricks, but she was unable to demonstrate them in the film due to her broken finger.
