Short description
A look at President Richard M. Nixon—a man carrying the fate of the world on his shoulders while battling the self-destructive demands from within—spanning his troubled boyhood in California to the shocking Watergate scandal that would end his Presidency.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming was completed around the time Richard Nixon (1913-1994) died. Footage of his funeral and the epilogue were added to the film a few months before its release.
  • To prepare for the role of Richard Nixon (1913-1994), Anthony Hopkins rewatched archival footage of speeches Nixon had given in public and spoke with people who knew him personally.
  • During the filming of a scene with Anthony Hopkins and Larry Hagman (1931-2021), the spotlights were positioned to shine directly down onto the coffee tables, and they were so powerful that the carpet under one of the tables began to smoke. Fortunately, one of the supporting actors noticed it in time, and James Woods prevented the fire from escalating into open flames.
