Nixon

Nixon is a biographical drama about Richard M. Nixon, tracing his life from a modest Quaker upbringing in California through his rise in politics and his years in the White House. The film follows his terms as congressman, senator and vice president, his election as president in 1972, and the Watergate scandal that forced him from office, making him the only American president to resign. It presents a divided view of his legacy, with some seeing the worst of American democracy and others a statesman who helped ease Cold War tensions.

Oliver Stone directed and co-wrote the film, which came after Natural Born Killers and before U Turn in his filmography. Anthony Hopkins plays Nixon, with Joan Allen as Pat Nixon, Powers Boothe as Alexander Haig, Ed Harris as E. Howard Hunt, Bob Hoskins as J. Edgar Hoover and E.G. Marshall as John Mitchell. Around 110 cast members and 75 crew members are credited.

Released in December 1995, the film runs 192 minutes. It was made for about 44 million dollars and returned roughly 14 million worldwide, so it did not recover its production cost at the box office.
