Tremors 4: The Legend Begins

Tremors 4: The Legend Begins is set in 1889 in the remote Nevada mining town of Rejection, where workers are killed by an unseen predator lurking underground. As residents flee and the mine owner, Hiram Gummer, sees his livelihood threatened, he hires a mercenary known as Black Hand Kelly to deal with the creatures. Hiram is the great-grandfather of Burt Gummer, the survivalist familiar from the later films in the series, and the story serves as a prequel explaining how the family's feud with the underground animals began.

The film was directed by S.S. Wilson, who had previously directed Tremors 2: Aftershocks in 1996. Michael Gross plays Hiram, a role distinct from his better-known turn as Burt, with Sara Botsford, Billy Drago, Brent Roam, August Schellenberg and J.E. Freeman in supporting parts. Nancy Roberts produced, and the production was made on a budget of five million dollars.

Released in 2004 and running 101 minutes, the film mixes action, comedy, horror, science fiction and western elements. It has a modest reputation among viewers: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 from around 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.7 from roughly 544 votes. These figures suggest a small but engaged audience rather than broad acclaim.
