The Cabinet of Caligari

Jane Lindstrom is a young woman whose car breaks down, leaving her stranded at a remote estate presided over by an unsettling man named Caligari. She soon comes to believe she is being held there against her will, and the household's odd residents offer her no way out. The film is a loose reworking of the German silent classic about Dr. Caligari and his somnambulist, relocated to a contemporary American setting.

Roger Kay directed and produced, working from a screenplay by Robert Bloch, the writer behind the novel that became Psycho. The cast is led by Glynis Johns as Jane, with Dan O'Herlihy in the dual role of Caligari and Paul, Richard Davalos as Mark Lindstrom, Lawrence Dobkin as Dr. Frank David, J. Pat O'Malley as Martin, and Vicki Trickett as the maid Jeanie. The film runs 106 minutes and was released in May 1962 by 20th Century Fox and Associated Producers.

Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from about 1,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of 57 votes.
