Blue Streak

Miles Logan is a jewel thief who pulls off his biggest score, making off with a valuable diamond. He hides the stone inside a building still under construction just before he is arrested, and after serving two years he returns to retrieve it. The trouble is that the unfinished building has become a police station, so the only way back inside is to pass himself off as a detective. Posing as a policeman puts him on real investigations alongside a partner, Carlson, and keeps him close to the hiding place, but he is not the only one with an interest in the diamond.

The film is a 1999 American action comedy directed by Les Mayfield, the fifth of the eight features he made between 1988 and 2007, arriving after Flubber. Stephen Carpenter, Michael Berry and John Blumenthal wrote the screenplay, and Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe produced. Martin Lawrence leads as Miles, with Luke Wilson as Carlson, Dave Chappelle as Tulley, Peter Greene as Deacon, Nicole Ari Parker as Mellisa Green and William Forsythe as Detective Hardcastle. It runs 93 minutes.

Made for 65 million dollars, the film took in 118 million worldwide, a solid return. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from 94,000 votes, with a similar 6.5/10 on TMDB. A critics' rating of 5.2/10 from 68 reviews sits below both audience scores, a gap typical of broad comedies of this kind.
