Dreamgirls

Dreamgirls follows a vocal trio from Chicago whose members are spotted at a talent showcase and taken on by an ambitious manager, Curtis Taylor Jr. He first places them as backup singers for the established star James "Thunder" Early, then reshapes their image and sound as trends shift. As the group, renamed The Dreams, reaches ever wider audiences, Curtis pushes Deena into the lead in place of Effie, and the women find that success brings tensions and personal costs along with it. The film is set in the 1960s and 1970s and is based on the Broadway musical of the same name.

Bill Condon wrote and directed the film, his fourth feature after Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, Gods and Monsters and Kinsey. Jamie Foxx plays Curtis, Beyoncé plays Deena, Jennifer Hudson plays Effie, Eddie Murphy plays James "Thunder" Early, Danny Glover plays Marty Madison and Anika Noni Rose plays Lorrell Robinson, within a credited cast of 101 and crew of 94. David Geffen and Laurence Mark produced.

Made for about 70 million US dollars, the film took roughly 155 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from around 81,000 votes and on TMDB 6.7/10 from about 1,100 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 7.4/10 from 205 reviews.
