August Rush

August Rush tells the story of a boy raised in an orphanage who believes his parents are still out there and that music will lead him back to them. After leaving the home, he makes his way through New York City, where a stranger living in an abandoned theater recognizes his unusual gift for music and takes him in, giving him the name August Rush and putting that talent to his own purposes. Unknown to the boy, the two musicians whose brief relationship years earlier produced him are also searching, each unaware they have a son.

Kirsten Sheridan directed the film, her second feature after Disco Pigs, from a screenplay by James V. Hart and Nick Castle. Freddie Highmore plays the title role, with Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the parents, alongside Terrence Howard, William Sadler and Robin Williams as the man called Wizard. Made for about 30 million dollars, it took roughly 66 million worldwide.

Audiences have responded warmly: on IMDb it holds 7.4 from around 114,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.4 from about 2,900. Critics were less taken with it, giving 4.9 from 121 reviews, notably lower than the audience scores.
