Daniel & Ana

Daniel and Ana Torres are a brother and sister from a well-off Mexico City family who get along well despite the age gap between them: at sixteen, Daniel is just entering adulthood, while twenty-three-year-old Ana is preparing for her wedding. Their comfortable lives are upended when they are kidnapped. Their captors seem to know the details of their lives but are not after a ransom, and the ordeal forces the siblings into an act that changes them both permanently.

Michel Franco wrote and directed the film, his first feature, and produced it with Daniel Birman Ripstein. Dario Yazbek Bernal and Marimar Vega play the title roles, with Josemaría Torre-Hütt, Monserrat Ontiveros, Luis Miguel Lombana and Hector Kotsifakis in supporting parts. The film runs 90 minutes.

Released in 2009, it precedes Franco's later features Chronic, New Order, Sundown, Memory and Dreams. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1/10 from roughly 2,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7/10 from around 117 votes. The smaller audience sample there is more positive, but the two scores are close enough that viewers on both sites place it in broadly the same middling range.
