Nanny McPhee

Cedric Brown, a widowed undertaker, is struggling to raise his seven children while running the family funeral business. The children have driven away every nanny their father has hired, and they expect the next one to fare no better. Into their household comes Nanny McPhee, a strange and decidedly unattractive woman who turns out to possess magical abilities and a talent for imposing order on unruly charges. Her methods produce startling results, and as the children begin to see her differently, a threat from their wealthy great-aunt, who controls the family's financial support, forces them to pull together.

The film is a British family fantasy comedy directed by Kirk Jones, his second feature after Waking Ned and the second of six films he has directed. Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay and stars in the title role, with Colin Firth as Mr. Brown, Kelly Macdonald as the maid Evangeline, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Eliza Bennett and Jennifer Rae Daykin among the children. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Lindsay Doran produced; the credited cast numbers 21.
