A.C.O.D.

Carter Spencer has spent much of his life caught between his divorced parents, Hugh and Melissa, whose split dragged on for around fifteen years. He has also looked after his younger brother Trey, who is carefree where Carter is cautious. When Trey announces he wants to marry after only a few months of dating, the old hostilities between the parents flare up again, and their father's refusal to compromise threatens the wedding. At the same time, Carter learns that as a child he was unknowingly observed by Dr. Judith, the therapist he believed was treating him, for a study of children whose parents divorced. That work has now become a book, and Carter is drawn into a follow-up that unsettles the whole family and forces him to reckon with his past, including his relationship with his girlfriend Michelle.

A.C.O.D. is a 2013 American comedy directed by Stuart Zicherman, who wrote the screenplay with Ben Karlin; Karlin produced alongside Tim Perell and Teddy Schwarzman. It runs 88 minutes. Adam Scott plays Carter, with Richard Jenkins and Catherine O'Hara as his parents, Amy Poehler as Sondra, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Lauren Stinger and Clark Duke as Trey. Thirty-six performers and eighty-nine crew members are credited.

The film drew modest responses. Its critics' rating of 5.5/10 from 56 reviews sits close to the audience scores of 5.7/10 on IMDb from around 14,000 votes and 5.5/10 on TMDB from 286 votes, suggesting critics and viewers judged it similarly.
