Short description
Set in 1993, this upcoming action comedy fantasy follows Ryu and Ken Masters, two estranged fighters who are brought back together. After being recruited by the mysterious Chun-Li for the World Warrior Tournament, the pair enters a brutal competition. As the event unfolds, they discover a lethal conspiracy that forces them to fight one another while confronting personal demons from their past.
The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who previously directed Bad Trip in 2021. The screenplay was written by Dalan Musson, T.J. Fixman, and Sakurai. Produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, and Jason Momoa, the production is a collaboration between Legendary Pictures and CAPCOM from the United States and Japan.
The main cast features Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. Other roles include Joe Anoa'i as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, and Cody Rhodes as Guile. The movie has a runtime of 119 minutes and is scheduled for release on October 14, 2026.
What's left behind the scenes
- Filming took place in Australia from 18 August to 12 November 2025 under the working title Punch.
- The film was due in March 2026 through Sony, but after that deal expired Paramount acquired distribution rights.
- David Dastmalchian, who plays M. Bison, is writing a story about his character for Legendary Comics’ prequel anthology.
- Jason Momoa plays Blanka and is also one of the film’s producers.
- This is the third live-action Street Fighter film, after the 1994 movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
- Danny and Michael Philippou were originally set to direct, but they left the project in June 2024, and Kitao Sakurai took over in February 2025.
