Are We There Yet?

Nick Persons is a bachelor who has fallen for Suzanne, a divorced mother of two. When her work keeps her in Vancouver over New Year's Eve, he offers to drive her children, seven-year-old Kevin and eleven-year-old Lindsey, from Portland to be with her. The children have no interest in welcoming another man into their mother's life, and they set out to make the long road trip as difficult as possible for him.

Brian Levant directed the film, which came after a run of family comedies including Beethoven, The Flintstones, Jingle All the Way and Snow Dogs. Ice Cube, who also produced, plays Nick, with Nia Long as Suzanne, Aleisha Allen and Philip Bolden as the children, and Jay Mohr and M.C. Gainey in supporting roles. The screenplay is credited to J. David Stem, David N. Weiss and Steven Gary Banks.

Made for a budget of 32 million dollars, the film took in about 98 million dollars worldwide. Audience responses were modest: it holds a rating of 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 37,000 votes, and 5.7 out of 10 on TMDB. A critics' rating of 3.5 out of 10 from 112 reviews places it below even those audience scores.
