Doomsday Book

Doomsday Book is a Korean science fiction anthology built around three separate stories, each imagining a different way humanity might bring about its own end in a technological age. One segment follows a virus that turns Seoul's streets into a zombie outbreak. Another centres on a robot working at a temple that appears to reach enlightenment, prompting its manufacturer to treat the machine as a danger. The third involves a young girl ordering a billiard ball from an unusual website for her father, after which a meteor heads toward Earth and people seek refuge underground.

The film is a collaboration between two directors, Yim Pil-sung and Kim Jee-woon, who wrote the screenplay with Yang Jong-kyu. Yim had previously directed Antarctic Journal and Hansel & Gretel, while Kim's earlier work includes A Tale of Two Sisters and I Saw the Devil. Among the credited cast of thirty-two are Ryoo Seung-bum, Go Joon-hee, Park Hae-il, Kim Kang-woo, Bae Doona and Bong Joon-ho.

Released in April 2012, the anthology runs 113 minutes and mixes comedy, drama, fantasy and science fiction. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 115 votes, while a small sample of critics' reviews averages 5.5 out of 10, putting the two roughly in the same range, with neither the audience nor the reviewers leaning strongly positive.
