Ten-year-old Vicky travels from the city to his grandparents' house in rural Kerala at the end of the 1970s. His grandfather has died, and the boy has come for the funeral rites, which draw the scattered members of the family back together under one roof for sixteen days. Living alongside relatives he barely knows, Vicky learns about himself, his family and the culture he comes from. The story is told through the memories of the grown-up Vicky, who returns to that same house and looks back on the experience.
Manjadikuru is a drama with family themes, written and directed by Anjali Menon, who also produced it and co-wrote the screenplay with Paliyath Aparna Menon. It was the first film she directed, followed by her segment in the 2009 anthology Kerala Cafe. The cast is led by Prithviraj Sukumaran as the adult Vicky, with Thilakan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Rahman, Murali and Urvashi among the relatives gathered for the mourning period.
The film runs 120 minutes and was released in December 2008. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.7 from a small number of votes, which points to a modest audience response rather than a wide one.
