Christine is a successful television editor in her early forties who travels with her husband Georg and their teenage daughter Sonja to the family's summer house by the sea. There she becomes interested in a young hitchhiker, Tamaz, and this encounter sets in motion a period in which she dismantles the life she has built and reassembles it along different lines.
The Austrian drama 42plus was directed by Sabine Derflinger, who wrote the screenplay with Mogens Rukov. Kurt Stocker and Danny Krausz produced it for Dor Film-West. Claudia Michelsen plays Christine, with Ulrich Tukur as Georg, Jacob Matschenz as Tamaz, Petra Morzé as Linda, Tobias Moretti as Martin and Vanessa Krüger as Sonja. The film runs 95 minutes and was released in February 2007. In Derflinger's filmography it comes before her later work on the 2026 television production Watzmann ermittelt · Die Tränen der Madonna.
Audience response has been moderate. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 299 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5 out of 10 from 20 votes. Both figures point to a mixed reception among viewers rather than broad enthusiasm.
