Factory Girl
Short description
Factory Girl dramatizes the brief, intense relationship between Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol in mid-1960s New York. Sedgwick, a wealthy young woman from a sheltered background, moves to the city and is drawn into Warhol's circle at the Factory, the studio and social scene where his art, films and entourage came together. She becomes his muse and the public face of his underground world, yet the affection she wants from him never comes. A charismatic musician enters her life and encourages her to break away from Warhol, leaving her caught between two worlds and increasingly unable to hold either.
Sienna Miller plays Sedgwick, with Guy Pearce as Warhol and Hayden Christensen as the musician. Mena Suvari, Jimmy Fallon and Tara Summers appear in supporting roles. George Hickenlooper directed from a screenplay by Captain Mauzner; the film was the sixth he directed, following Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse, Grey Knight, Persons Unknown, Dogtown and The Man from Elysian Fields. It runs 91 minutes.
Released in late 2006, the film cost about 7 million USD and took roughly 4 million USD worldwide, a return well below its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from around 23,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6/10 from about 275 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1/10 from 112 reviews places it below both audience scores.
