About Time
Short description
Tim Lake learns from his father that the men in his family have long possessed the ability to travel into the past. He cannot alter history, but he can revisit and reshape events in his own life. Tim sets out to use the gift to improve his circumstances, particularly his search for a girlfriend, and meets an American woman named Mary after moving to London. Their relationship develops with help from his ability, though he comes to see that time travel cannot resolve every difficulty, especially those touching his family.
Richard Curtis wrote and directed the film, his third directorial feature after Love Actually and The Boat That Rocked. Domhnall Gleeson plays Tim, with Rachel McAdams as Mary, Bill Nighy as his father, Tom Hollander as Harry, Margot Robbie as Charlotte and Lydia Wilson as Kit Kat. Nicky Kentish Barnes, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner produced the British-American production for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures.
Released in 2013, the film had a budget of 12 million dollars and took 87 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 7.8 out of 10 from 431,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.9 from 9,512 votes, showing sustained audience approval. The critics' rating stands at 6.4 from 169 reviews, noticeably lower than the audience scores, a gap that suggests viewers responded more warmly to the film than reviewers did.
