Bad 25 is a documentary directed by Spike Lee that marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of Michael Jackson's album Bad, released in 1987. The film looks at how the record was made and at the tour that followed it, using archival footage from the studio and from the road alongside interviews with people who worked closely with Jackson. More than forty such conversations are featured, with friends, collaborators, musicians and choreographers, among them Sheryl Crow, Cee Lo Green, Mariah Carey and Questlove, many of whom took part in the Bad era. The film builds its account of the album and its supporting tour from this mix of period material and later recollection.
The film was released in 2012 and runs 131 minutes. It is the nineteenth of twenty-six features Spike Lee has directed in chronological order, coming after Red Hook Summer and before Oldboy. It was produced by 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, Optimum Productions, Sony Music Entertainment and Epic Records.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.9 from around 2,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.3 from 76 votes. A critics' rating of 7.3 from twelve reviews places it close to the audience score on TMDB and somewhat below the IMDb figure.
