Alpha and Omega
Short description
Alpha and Omega is an animated adventure about two young wolves, Humphrey and Kate, who live in a park in Canada and belong to different levels of their pack's social order. Humphrey is a carefree Omega, while Kate is a disciplined Alpha. When they are captured and taken far from home, the two must work together to make the long journey back, and their growing feelings complicate the trip.
The film was directed by Ben Gluck and Anthony Bell. It is the second of the two films Gluck directed, after Brother Bear 2, and the first of two directed by Bell. Chris Denk and Steve Moore wrote the screenplay, and Ken Katsumoto, Richard Rich and Steve Moore produced. Justin Long voices Humphrey and Hayden Panettiere voices Kate, with Dennis Hopper, Danny Glover, Larry Miller and Eric Price among the supporting cast.
Released in 2010, the film runs 88 minutes and was made for about 20 million dollars, earning roughly 51 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 5.1 rating from about 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.9 from around 579 votes. A critics' rating of 4.2 from 55 reviews places it below both audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- Dennis Hopper's last project. The actor passed away before the cartoon was released. The cartoon is dedicated to the memory of Hopper.
- The actors, as well as directors Anthony Bell with Ben Gluck, and the rest of the cartoon's creative team, actually performed all the scenes written in the script in front of the camera, after which the footage was sent to Mumbai, India, where it was animated.
- The main characters are named Humphrey and Kate. This is how the actors who played Charlie and Rose – the main characters of John Huston's adventure drama 'The African Queen' (1951) – were named. These roles were played by Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.
- Screenwriter and producer Steve Moore initially wanted to make the plot darker and more serious, but Lionsgate instructed him to rewrite the script and make it more suitable for a children's audience.
