Torrente 2: Mission in Marbella

Torrente 2: Mission in Marbella continues the story of José Luis Torrente, a loud-mouthed former Madrid police officer. Having left the force and grown wealthy, he frittered away his fortune at the roulette table and is forced back to work. He sets himself up on the Costa del Sol as a private investigator, with part-time help from Cuco, and sets out to find an international arms dealer called Spinelli, who is threatening to destroy Marbella unless a ransom is paid.

Santiago Segura directs, writes and stars in the film, the third of the thirteen features he has directed in chronological order, following Torrente: The Dumb Arm of the Law in 1998 and preceding Torrente 3: The Protector in 2005. Gabino Diego plays Cuco, with Tony Leblanc as Mauricio, José Luis Moreno as Spinelli, Inés Sastre as Bella Cantante and Arturo Valls as Fabiano. It was produced by Juan Dakas and Andrés Vicente Gómez for Lolafilms and Amiguetes Entertainment.

Released in March 2001, the film runs 99 minutes and blends action, comedy and crime. Made for around four million dollars, it took roughly twenty-one million worldwide, a return that made it one of the biggest Spanish hits of its time. On IMDb it holds 6.4 from about 8,700 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from 228 votes, showing a modest but consistent level of approval across both audiences.
