The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

The upcoming action and science fiction film is set in Panem, twenty-four years before the events of the first Hunger Games. The story begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th annual games, a special event known as the Second Quarter Quell. Because of this anniversary, the number of tributes selected from each district is doubled. The plot follows Haymitch Abernathy, a young man from District 12 who is forced away from his family and loved ones to compete in the Capitol. Alongside three other tributes from his home, Haymitch must fight for survival in a competition where he feels destined to fail.

Francis Lawrence directs this production, which follows his previous work on The Long Walk and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The cast features Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, with Mckenna Grace, Whitney Peak, and Elle Fanning also appearing. A joint production between the United States and Germany, the film was made with a budget of 150 million USD. It is scheduled for release on November 18, 2026.
