Sherrybaby

Sherry Swanson returns to her New Jersey hometown after serving a three-year prison sentence for a theft committed while she was addicted to heroin. Now sober, she wants to rebuild her relationship with her young daughter, who has been raised in her absence by her brother and his wife. Sherry soon finds that the family has settled into its own routines without her, and that her sister-in-law in particular questions whether she is fit to be a mother. Reclaiming her place in her daughter's life proves harder than she expected, and her determination to stay clean is put under pressure.

Laurie Collyer wrote and directed this American drama, her first feature, followed years later by Furlough. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Sherry, with Brad William Henke, Sam Bottoms, Giancarlo Esposito, Bridget Barkan and Ryan Simpkins among the credited cast of twenty-six. The film runs 96 minutes.
