Wristcutters: A Love Story

After his girlfriend Desiree ends their relationship, Zia takes his own life. Instead of nothingness, he wakes in an afterlife reserved for suicides, a drab, run-down version of the ordinary world where people keep the scars of how they died and take up dead-end jobs. Zia finds work at a pizza place and settles into the grey routine until he learns that Desiree killed herself shortly after he did. Hoping to find her, he sets off across this strange landscape with a new friend, a Russian rock musician, picking up a fellow traveler along the way.

The film is Goran Dukić's first feature as director, released in 2007, and he also wrote the screenplay. Patrick Fugit plays Zia, with Shannyn Sossamon as Mikal, Shea Whigham as Eugene and Leslie Bibb as Desiree. It was made on a budget of about one million dollars and runs 88 minutes.

Audiences have received it favorably: on IMDb it holds 7.2 out of 10 from roughly 60,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 7 out of 10 from around 648 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 91 reviews places it somewhat below those audience scores. Dukić's next feature as director, Obsession, followed in 2019.
