Avenging Angelo

Jennifer Barrett has grown up wealthy and unaware of her real parentage. After Angelo Allieghieri, a mafia boss, is killed, his loyal bodyguard Frankie Delano tells her that Angelo was her father and that the enemies who arranged his death are now likely to come after her. Bound by a promise to the man he served, Frankie stays close to protect her, though Jennifer has her own ideas about how to respond to her father's murder and soon pushes for revenge rather than safety, with the two developing feelings for each other along the way.

Avenging Angelo is a 2002 action comedy with crime elements, directed by Martyn Burke and written by Will Aldis and Steve Mackall. It was Burke's second feature, following Pirates of Silicon Valley three years earlier. Sylvester Stallone plays Frankie, Madeleine Stowe plays Jennifer, and Anthony Quinn plays Angelo; Raoul Bova, Harry Van Gorkum and Billy Gardell are also in the cast. The production was an American, French and Swiss co-production involving Warner Bros. Pictures, Quinta Communications, Epsilon Motion Pictures and Franchise Pictures, made for about 17 million dollars.

Audience response has been modest: it holds a 5.2 rating on IMDb from roughly 11,000 votes and a 5.4 on TMDB from far fewer. A small sample of critics rated it 4.4, below even those mixed audience scores, so the film was not warmly received in its time.
