Fanboys

Fanboys follows a group of longtime Star Wars enthusiasts who reunite years after school to fulfil a promise made to their friend Linus. When they learn he is terminally ill and unlikely to live to see the release of Episode I, they set out from their homes and drive across the United States towards George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch, hoping to obtain a copy of the film so he can watch it before anyone else. The trip involves a series of detours and confrontations that test the friends' patience and loyalty.

Kyle Newman directed the film, his second feature after The Hollow (2004) and the first of four titles he has made to date. Adam F. Goldberg and Ernest Cline wrote the screenplay, and Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti produced. The cast is led by Sam Huntington as Eric, Jay Baruchel as Windows, Dan Fogler as Hutch, Kristen Bell as Zoe and Christopher Marquette as Linus, among 36 credited performers. Made on a budget of four million dollars, the film was released in February 2009.

Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from roughly 63,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from a much smaller sample of about 900. A critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from 94 reviews places it slightly below the viewer scores, suggesting a comedy that pleased its core audience more than reviewers.
