Paan Singh Tomar tells the story of a champion athlete whose life after competition takes a hard turn. A celebrated runner, he finds that the promises made to him once his sporting career ends do not hold up, and the disappointment and injustice he meets push him toward a life outside the law, as a bandit and rebel. The film follows that transformation and the conflict between the man he was and the man circumstances force him to become.
Tigmanshu Dhulia directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Sanjay Chauhan, and the film sits between his earlier Haasil and his later Ghamasaan. Irrfan Khan plays the title role, with Mahie Gill, Vipin Sharma, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Imran Hasnee and Zakir Hussain among the supporting cast. Ronnie Screwvala produced it for UTV Motion Pictures and UTV Spotboy Motion Pictures.
Released in March 2012, the Hindi-language crime drama runs 135 minutes. Its reputation rests largely on Irrfan Khan's performance in the lead, and the ratings reflect a strong and enduring response: on IMDb it holds 8.2 out of 10 from around 40,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.4 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of 152 votes.
