Short description

Mitchie Torres wants nothing more than to spend her summer at a prestigious music camp, but her family cannot afford the fees. She ends up attending only because her mother takes a job in the camp kitchen, and Mitchie keeps her connection to the kitchen staff hidden from the other campers. After one of the members of the pop group Connect 3 is sent to the camp as a mentor, he hears a girl singing but never sees her face, and he sets out to find out who she is. Meanwhile Mitchie navigates friendships and rivalries among the campers while chasing her ambition to perform.

The film is a Disney Channel television movie directed by Matthew Diamond, written by Julie Brown, Karin Gist and Regina Y. Hicks, and produced by Kevin Lafferty. It sits between Diamond's Victor/Victoria and The Wiz Live! in his directing career. Demi Lovato plays Mitchie, with Joe Jonas as Shane Gray, Meaghan Jette Martin as Tess Tyler, Maria Canals-Barrera as Connie Torres, Alyson Stoner as Caitlyn Geller and Julie Brown as Dee La Duke, among a credited cast of 43.

Released in June 2008 and running 94 minutes, the musical comedy-drama mixes family, romance and teen rivalry. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from around 41,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from more than 2,200 votes. A critics' score of 4.4 from 22 reviews places it below the audience figure on TMDB.
